Serving The Central Oregon Community for 30+ Years!

Family owned & Operated by local, native Oregonians

From humble beginnings, it all started around 1990 when Mike was still working at the local mill in Prineville, OR. With two young children at home and a wife who wanted to stay home to raise them, Mike decided to start his own business to make that dream a reality.

Initially named Mike’s Cabinets, the business began in the back of a family member’s old horse barn in Alfalfa, OR. Mike used scraps of wood from the mill to craft his first pieces, creating custom china cabinets for his parents and in-laws. These initial creations are still in the family and treasured as heirlooms today.

“We had no idea how to run a business and had to learn through the school of hard knocks”- Mike

The journey wasn't without its challenges. Mike recalls, “We had no idea how to run a business and had to learn through the school of hard knocks. It was easier to do the actual work than to run a business.” After facing significant difficulties, including filing for bankruptcy, Mike took a job selling cabinets for another company. This experience provided him with the sales knowledge needed to make his own business a success! Soon, Mike had more customers than he could handle.

“When we started, I did the cabinets all on graph paper” - Mike

Now, with over 30+ years of experience, Ochoco Cabinet & Door has grown significantly. From its beginnings in a horse barn, the business now operates out of a larger shop in the Prineville industrial park with a dedicated team of knowledgeable employees. Mike reflects on the early days, “When we started, I did the cabinets all on graph paper and had to do all the math by hand.” Today, modern computer programs assist in drafting detailed and even 3D designs for customers to review before production begins.

Where we are today…

Despite the growth and advancements, some things have remained the same. Mike is still involved in every step of daily operations, from discussing visions with customers to designing and drafting cabinets himself, and even participating in much of the manual labor alongside his team. Much of the team is family, including his daughter Casey, step-son RJ, and significant other Julie, all of whom take immense pride in their work.

As a family business, Ochoco Cabinet & Door is very personal to us. We believe the careful consideration and love that goes into our work far surpasses the quality of cheaply made factory cabinets. Our close-knit team works directly with each other every day, acquiring the expertise needed to do the job right. Casey says, “I love working with my Dad, RJ, and Julie; they’re truly some of my favorite people, and it’s a blessing to get to see them every day.” When asking RJ what he enjoys the most about his job, he said, “seeing the overall finished product, and seeing the transformation of someone’s house.” He also remarked about how he enjoys the personal connections made with customers, and that “Mike makes everyone feel like family.”

As cheesy as it is to say, our cabinets are truly made with love!

Meet Capone, a stray as loyal as a dog. We started feeding him years ago, and he has stuck alongside us. We don’t dare take him home, for he’s not too happy when we have tried, so we respect his freedom. At one point he disappeared for a couple years, but to our amazement he found his way back in what we can only imagine as a ‘Homeward Bound-like’ fashion.

Welcome to the family!
